Whilst living in Germany some friends came to visit me. One of them was especially proud of his newest toy – a little spy camera!
He’d bought a Digital Harinezumi. Harezumi means hedgehog in Japanese apparently, however this little camera isn’t spiky, and it doesn’t curl up into a ball either. It’s a small pocket-sized digital camera which can take photos and movies too. I bought mine around 2011 or 2012 I think, so doesn’t have as many features as the latest versions. I’ve had a lot of fun with it over the years though.
Here are a couple of galleries of photos which I took with it. You can see that the colours are very vivid in some photos, and also have a grainy effect which can look really good. Mine doesn’t have a proper viewfinder, and the tiny screen only shows the photo after taking it, so it’s always a mystery to see what you’ll end up with…

Whilst I’m here I’ll also include a plug for the Buchstabenmuseum (Letter Museum) in Berlin. The museum started many years ago as a project between two friends – you can read more about the story by scrolling down on the museum’s homepage. It’s a must for any fans of typography, neon signs, lettering and also of interesting collections curated and cared for by passionate people!
